Here are some questions you should ask at your next board meeting, We are sure that you will find the answers enlightening!
 
questions   In the event of a serious event in your division, e.g. fire, flood, building collapse etc, how could you continue to run your department?
 
questions   How badly would a long term interruption to business impact your bottom line?
 
questions   How would you implement a business continuity plan?
 
questions   Which areas could continue to operate?
 
questions   Which areas (if any) could continue to trade in another location?
 
questions   What, (if any) actions could you take to lessen the impact of the inevitable loss of revenue?
 
questions   Which areas are critical to your department's success?
 
questions   Which areas could you afford to "mark time" with during the crisis?
 
questions   How would such an event impact upon your customer base?
 
questions   How would you ensure you had sufficient resources in reserve to make it through a long term disruption?
 
questions   How soon could you start trading again in the event of a major disaster, Months, weeks, days, hours?
 
questions   How would you ensure your employees were best utilised during such an event?
 
questions   How would such an event damage the brand if business interruption was inevitable?
 
questions   Are we complacent about our "potential" for such an event?
 
questions   Were you aware that demonstration of having the ability to deal with such an event can often lead to increasing shareholder value?
 
questions   Would your suppliers remain solvent during a prolonged interruption?
 
questions   Health and Safety, have you thought about the inevitable implications regarding updated procedures, compliance etc?
 
questions   What is your exposure regarding hazardous materials and the problems they could cause during or after such an event?
 
questions   How robust is your IT back up. Is your system backed up daily? Is the back up on site or off site?
 
questions   Are your staff trained how to deal with recovering areas after a disaster?
 
questions   What would be the impact of stock lost as the result of a disaster?
 
questions   Do you have secure service agreements in place to enable critical plant to be back in service as soon as possible after an event?
 
questions   Who in your organisation would be able to deal with the Factory inspector, Fire Officer, Local Authority, Health & Safety, Media etc?
 
questions   How would you maximise the funds made available for the rebuild?
 
questions   Do you have in place employee directives for such an event?
 
questions   What are the legal implications regarding your inability to fulfil an order as a result of a disaster?
 
questions   In the event of a disaster how would we deal with our communications, telephone, internet connections, remote workers, etc?
